A Girls' Day out in New York City

My friend Mary had yet to see the Rockefeller Tree since moving to CT and now that the Navy is about to move her family again she knew this could be her last chance to see the tree. So she emailed me if I would like to go along. Of course! I have been to New York City several times but had never seen the tree so it would be a first for me as well. We had a false start before Christmas when we had the big snowfall, but today the weather was sunny and beautiful. We took the train from Mystic to Penn Station and first visited the Empire State building. The wait was ridiculously long (2 1/2 hours) but worth it because I've always wanted to go up to the top but never had the time to wait in line. The view was spectacular, 25 miles visibility. The wind wasn't too bad until we rounded the last corner. I didn't even take any pictures at the end for fear I'd lose my camera. Next we walked to Rockefeller Center to see the tree. The streets were crowded but no where near what it would have been before Christmas. The tree was beautiful. I took a short video so Andrew could see the tree. He hasn't seen it either and was a little bummed about not going, but understood this was my first outing with a friend since Sydney was born.
While I was away for the day Andrew took Sydney to the Children's Museum. When I got home he told me they played at the museum for an hour and a half and he had to practically drag her out, hehe. She didn't ask for me until bedtime and I called her then to say goodnight. I didn't feel weird to be away from her because she was with Andrew. Anyone else and I probably would have called every couple hours. I was exhuasted when I got back home, but it was an awesome girls day!
